Kirin Chip will no longer come with Huawei mobile handset
On 30th June 2020, US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has levied a ban on Chinese telecom companies Huawei and ZTE, thus the announcement of Huawei mate 40 series as the last smartphones with in-house Kirin chipsets are the result of it. CEO of Huawei consumer business Richard YU, announced that the manufacturing of Kirin Chips will not be done after 15 September cause of the US ban on Huawei. Yu Richard has made this announcement at the 2020 summit of China information Technology association.
Why Huawei Mate 40 is the last with Kirin chipset?
TSMS (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) manufactures Huawei’s chipset, but it has halted its production for Huawei series cause of the licensing by the US. TSMC uses types of equipment form the US, but recently Trump administration has instituted an entity list for manufactures. According to this so-called entity list, all foreign manufactures will have to get a license to sell Huawei, consequently, TSMC said it will not sell chips to Huawei anymore.
Curtailing Kirin Chipsets from Huawei smartphones will be a mere loss for the company. However, for pushing the company’s progress forward, the company will need to source processors from other companies. Some rumours suggest that the company will collaborate with MediaTek.
Why Google has restricted Huawei from using its apps?
Because of the US ban on Huawei, Google has already prohibited Huawei from using its apps. The restriction on Huawei from using GOOGLE’s apps and services will hamper the android to run expectedly. Moreover, the US cleared that it needs to seek American technology with explicit permission to sell semiconductors to Huawei, hence TSMC confirmed to no longer manufacturing Kirin chipsets for Huawei, that however puts Kirin chips to an end for Huawei.
